SWEET SUBTLE NEW YEAR

January 3, 2014

Second morning, waking how I'd hoped I wouldn't have to - by myself, new and first apartment.

What I didn't expect was how easily I would move in, not just physically but with my soul first. Like I was here already and the plan was to meet myself.

I think everyday I like my coffee a little differently. I'm going to discover that more, or just dwell in how it all is. I keep things clean, I've fallen into routine in two days when I though at first I wouldn't get used to it for five months or something, when the lease is up in May.

I feel like the New Year slipped in so sweetly and quietly, barely noticed. No big life-shifting resolutions set - and yet, this is the biggest thing I've had happened at the turn of a new year. Subtle things always seem to be the most right, the biggest, the grandest!

This has been it, the stretching towards a young familiar childhood and simple way, and the new strength I built and then let move to other places.

There is fruit on the table, and tiny white lights turned on, plans for the day - I have yet to scribble my name and slide it into the slot on my mailbox.

Ari is visiting tonight- I'm making soup and she'll bring wine.
Then Jake comes after work and to spend the night and Saturday morning with my boy... to fall more and more into the bed we've made together, watching the things come together around us, the vision we've shared that has flowed in and out and now feels clearer than ever.

Maybe tomorrow morning I'll roll my yoga mat out in the light streaked living space - stretch out my body a little to match my big happy soul!

So many exciting things to look forward to in this new home, new close community, sweet subtle new year.

...

I take the bus each day to work, always sitting up front. I don't control the main heating system in the house I live in, just the knobs on my old radiators, and it's always very, very warm. I forget how cold it is when I head out in the morning, but today I remembered my mittens which is wonderful.

...

I never knew the smell of roasted onions and cauliflower was so warm and homey! I'm making soup on this very, very cold day - just around 2 degrees!
